Still undecided

Thanks for all of your suggestions on what to do with the bold print fabric. There were several popular suggestions:

1. 60's style sleeveless dress
2. Full or pleated skirt
3. Halter dress or top
4. Tunic
5. Frame a panel and hang it as art (which it is!)

The dress idea is appealing because then I don't have to find a top or bottom to coordinate! But the skirt idea is really growing on me. And I'm such a tunic lover.

I went through my vintage patterns for dresses and here are some candidates:

These are the exact same style but the Butterick has a slit in the back. I'd do a sleeveless, knee-length version.

Same silhouette with different seamlines. The second year that I sewed, I made 6865, like the pink dress but with 3/4 sleeves. I used a woven wool from Joann, and this was back before I had the forethought to add a lining so the dress was itchy, and the neckline was chokingly small compared to today's open necklines that I'm accustomed to. It looked good but it was so uncomfortable to wear! I think I wore it twice before tossing it in the Goodwill bag.

I don't think I have enough fabric for even a sleeveless, knee-length version but I'm going to check.

Anyway, I think I'm going to let this stew in my head for a little while longer. I just really want to sew up this fabric in time for the summer because I have the perfect flat strappy sandals in red patent leather!

You always make excellent pattern+fabric decisions! Just take your time... maybe distract yourself with Project Runway [insert country here] reruns.

Have you checked our BWOF 11/08 #118? It is made up in a very graphic fabric and looks great! Worth a look possibly? Good luck with whatever you choose, I am sure it will look fantastic anyway :-)

That's an interesting fabric--rather art deco looking. It will be interesting to see it made into a garment. Good luck!

I am sure whatever choice you make will be just awesome. A pleated skirt could be great, the more I think about it. It will click for you when the time is right.

Love those patterns! My vote is Simplicity 7360 as I think it will break up the print the least, but any of them would be fun.

Hmm, I think we need to see the shoes! Wouldn't be the first time I made an outfit around a pair of shoes.

I'm going to enjoy watching you work with that fabric--it's very pretty. I'm thinking of getting a similar piece. I'm wondering if you have seen how Phyllis (coudremode.com) has worked with a similar large scale print. I think that she cut out her pattern on the cross grain.

OMG I just realized I picked up this fabric too. Just dawned me that its the same one you were pondering...I like the fabric designer. Kashi had a several designs. I have no clue what to do with it either LOL.
