Investigative reporting

In the name of research for my sewing blog, I decided to purchase the Burda 2008 calendar from GLP News.

The cost is $10, and that includes shipping. I placed the order online and literally received the calendar in the mail 2 days later. That's service. It's about 4" x 5.5" in size. The cover is faux suede and has a cute tree that illustrates the four seasons.

Each page displays 2 days, except for Sunday which gets its own page. Quotes, household- and health-related tips, and recipes are sprinkled thoughout, all in German, mind you. I am going to try to turn this into a learning experience and pull out my German-English dictionary for the words I don't know (which are plenty!).

Just as important as any national holiday, the calendar reminds you when the new issue of Burda will hit the newsstands (or for those of us in the US, the date the magazine will be mailed to us, perhaps).

The last pages include bonuses such as post office rates from Germany, dates of school holidays, more recipes, pics of a few Pilates poses, tips on packing before a vacation, and a 28 day grid calendar for recording your menstrual cycle.

Now, I have to confess that I probably don't need a little calendar like this. I have all my work appointments recorded electronically in Outlook. My 2007 personal calendar has been buried under some papers on my desk ever since I started sharing Google Calendar with my husband. But like I said, I did it for the sake of keeping my readers in the know :)

Ooooh, I might have to get that, you know... to remind me when to start stalking the burda website for the magazine previews!

I can't live without my little date book - I write in in all the addresses, birthdays and notes I need to know, along with appointments, classes and everything else. I look at it each morning to see what I have to do that day! I also include a to-do list for each week - it tells me when to pay taxes, when credit card bills are do - it's crazy.
I think the all in German part would bother me, but it still loks like a great book!!
This year and for 2008 I have been/ will be using the Vera Bradley datebooks. My best friend bought the 2007 one for me last year, and I have already picked out the 2008 one for next year!!

That looks like a lovely design. I'm very picky about my datebooks, so I'm always happy to learn about new options, thanks.

Cute calendar! I agree about Google calendar, though - our whole family is on it (even the 10 year old) and it's a wonderful way to keep track of everyone!

Ha, ha! In the name of research...love that. Now if you could only find a way to write it off!

I haven't used Google calendar - looks like I better check that out.

How fun! Thanks for takin' one for the team. I'm too far into the digital age for a book like that, but I love these letterpress calendars on etsy.com. Beautiful work. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=7594729

Leslie - I have been stalking that same letterpress calendar! ilee, the seller/vendor, is going to be part of an indie craft show here in December; I'm hoping they will offer a special craft show discount :)

Wow.. ambitious! I wish it came in English!

Christina-oooh, I'm jealous! I just noticed ilee is in Seattle. The price of the calendars was lower last year, it's getting a little high for stocking stuffers. :-) Good luck at the show!
