Vogue posted new patterns on their site yesterday and I was surprised at how stylish they were! So often it's a bunch of boring business suits but I saw several details that I really liked this time:
The gathered sleeve on this Badgley Mischka jacket, Vogue 1099.
The curved sleeve hem of this Anne Klein jacket, Vogue 1098.
I like pretty much everything about this DKNY jacket, Vogue 1093.
The gathered waistband of this jacket looks very RTW, Vogue 8562.
And - something funny happened. Yesterday Cindy and I were talking over email about the new patterns and I told her that I liked this new Michael Kors dress, Vogue 1090. Then I was at Nordstrom Rack after work and look what I found:
I just had to do a dressing room photo shoot a la Ambika. The dress is 100% wool, unlined. It closes with an invisible zip in the CB seam.
Check out the price tag. Originally $1995, marked down to $699, and 75% off that makes it $175. If I make this, I could probably manage to keep it under $30.

The Michael Kors yellow number is a definite must make! I may need to order it now!
How crazy is that! What an amazing deal to make it for $30 when it has sold for $1995.
What a coincidence to see this dress just after Vogue has published the new patterns. Nice you took pictures!
Excellent snoop shopping! I agree, there are a number of very decent patterns this time.
I love the dressing room shot! & how cute are you--though I don't doubt you couldn't make this more fabulous as well as for much cheaper.
That is soooo kewl that you found the actual dress and it's interesting that you wrote it has an invisible zipper because on the pattern it looks like a regular center back zipper insertion!
I hope you do decide to make your own version of this!
What a neat find!!!
Wow, $1995? I mean, it's nice but $1995? I do like it so I hope you make your own. Too funny you found it in the same color and everything.
The things you see! Talk about double take. I bet you could even line your version. :) For $175, let alone $1995, I'd want my wool dress to be lined thank you very much!
My Goodness! $30.00 sounds good to me.
And it isn't even lined! Was the sheep hand feed from birth before the wool was shorn? Personally I don't even like the style. The other Vogues look really interesting. I really like the Anne Klein jacket - very BWOF.
This was the first Big 4 offering that intrigued me, Tracy Reese was a surprise too. LOL at the Kors! Great job on the Rack stalking.
Vogue really came through right? That MK dress would be awesome on you in red or plum. I hope you make it (soon!) :)
this is too crazy for words! The same day too! I guess it means you are just meant to make it but I wonder if you are just going to get over it. That's what happens to me sometimes! It's like making that gourmet meal... You cook it for 4 hours then u r so sick of it you can't eat it!
Thats so fascinating, thanks for taking dressing room pics! I'm loving lots ofthese Vogues too, will splurge when they next have an online sale.
Wow, I had no idea that some designers make pattern for a style that they also sell at retail. And the dress is TDF and what a bargain :)
I can't believe you found the identical dress, LOL
great post, I love the first jacket and the third one
I cannot believe people actually pay that kind of money for clothing. It is insane to me. Even $175.00 is way too much.
$1995and unlined? Michael, you're killing me! That dress is cute, but yours will look even better! I loved the Badgely Mischka jacket too.
Can't believe you found the EXACT dress lol.
Thanks for highlighting these patterns! I'll have to check it out.
I just browse Vogue pattern site and I cannot believe I missed the detail sleeves from the 1st jacket, it's lovely !
That is some crazy that you found that same dress, on the same day no less!
But I guess you and everyone else here will have to enjoy it and the patterns for me. I actually really don't care for most of the new Vogue patterns, let alone being able to wear them. I prefer form fitting/following silhouettes a la the 1947 New Look.
At least my bank account won't have to suffer for it! Lol
What a coincidence. It happened to me once with an Anne Klein jacket pattern. I found the exact jacket in Marshall's of all places, but not in my size. Do you think you will make the dress? I have already ordered the patterns for the top three pictures as well as one of the Tracey Reese's. I subscribe to Vogue magazine and it comes out about two weeks before the patterns show up on the web site. While the "buy one pattern, get 2 free" order form in the magazine isn’t as good BMV club or JoAnne sales, they alway have my size and come within two weeks. I am tired of cold weather and would love to start sewing for spring.
Love the 8262 jacket!
But I'm just not feeling the Kors dress... but how crazy that they do a pattern for something he's trying to sell in high end stores!!!
the original price of the kors dress is ridiculous.
This is one I am really considering. The pattern info says it's lined. I agree with Belinda, that much money and a wool dress isn't lined?! I think I'd make it in linen though.
cool that you found it on the clearance rack.
Just wanted to let you know I nominated you for a Kreative Blogger award on my site. You don't have to play along if you don't want to, but thought I would let you know!
I think the dress is more exciting on the pattern envelope than "in person" on you ... you have a very petite frame and it just doesn't do you justice. Hope you don't mind my being candid ... a fellow PR fan.
Wow, what a great snoop shopping experience. I'm never that lucky! This pattern is one of my "must haves" for the Spring, I'm thinking, though...1)wool for Spring? no. At least not where I live 2)How did you like it? 3)Based on your pics, you could probably go 2 sizes smaller and it would look awesome! I'm loving the colors, thanks for sharing!
Tina - Thank you for your candidness! I have to agree that the "real" garment didn't blow me away. Which kind of goes along with my response to...
Sewellen - The dress I tried on was 1 size larger than I would usually wear in RTW, so I do agree maybe a closer fit would be more flattering. I'd like to do it in a linen, I think it will look less stiff this way.
