Origami

Have you noticed the origami details popping up here and there?

Hoss Intropia

United Bamboo

Y & Kei

Galliano for Dior

Of course Burda is on it!

Burda World of Fashion, November 2007, model 101

Burda Easy Fashion, Fall/Winter 2007, model 1F

I'm tracing the Burda Easy Fashion coat, I like the waist detail a little better than the BWOF coat. The origami trim at the hem is formed exactly the same in both magazines though. Burda Easy Fashion also shows this trim on a blouse, dress, and skirt; it's a great addition.

I don't have any fabric for this coat yet. I was thinking of using a wool, both to use up my stash and to enter it in the Pattern Review wool garment contest. But, I'd love a fabric that's a little more dressy, maybe with a shine to it. I think I'll be taking a trip to my local fabric shop this weekend.

I love that origami detail. I will probably never do the coat, but I would love to add that detail to a skirt or a shift dress.

It's funny, Dorothy Lee used to date one of my friends from college and I found her bio and recent clothing line in Lucky magazine a couple of weeks back. It's just funny to see her name popping up everywhere. =) I love the details though, I really think the origami looks spectacular as a hem detail.

Cute - you will have to show how to do it! :)

I've noticed that, too, and thanks for bringing so many sources together for me to see at the same time. The Galliano for Dior oragami collection is one of my all-time favorite fashion collections.

While shopping for my slightly floozy New Year's eve shirt at Charlotte Russe, I tried on a beaut of a satin top with this kind of detailing. I didn't event make the connection. This might be why I should shop more. Or, I can just let you pick out all the trends and copy your style.

And, I'm impressed you found something in that Easy edition. Mine was looked through twice and I was so underwhelmed. Maybe this is another case of BWOF just being ahead of the curve.

I love it! I think it adds that extra touch to an otherwise plain outfit.

BTW I am LOVING The Collection: A Novel. Thank you, thank you!

I wasn't thrilled by the BWOF coat's collar but I love the burda easy one (though like Cidell I didn't notice anything amazing when flipping through it). As far as fabric is concerned, you should probably avoid wool as it might be too heavy to origami-fold properly.

Last, I love the dorothy lee's blouse you're showing. That's great inspiration, thanks for sharing.

I can't wait to see how the coat comes out. I was just look at a book called Folded Fabric that shows you how to make your fabric pop. It's a quilting book, but I figured I could incorporate some of the ideas to fashion garments.

Lovely details, thank you for sharing them, Christina! The Burda Easy Fashion coat also caught my eye but I wasn't able to find the right fabric for it (I would like something similar to the original model's fabric). I'm looking forward to your version!

I've noticed the origami trend too but haven't attempted it yet. You compiled a great sampling!

I bought the Burda Easy issue while traveling this fall. I love the coat but when I tried to figure out the directions, my German is totally lacking!!! Any secrets you can share would be appreciated!

I am considering the BWOF coat. And I really love the Hoss Intropia dress. The origami details for a belt is great. Thank you for the inspiration.

I love any kind of creative fabric manipulation. Smocking is my favorite! That skirt is dreamy!
