BWOF Project of the Month: November

I took the easy road for my November BWOF project of the month. Sure, I would've loved to make a cocktail dress, or the coat with the origami hem, but in the interest of time, I went for the no-muslin-required, instant gratification project. It doesn't get much easier than the yoga pant:

Fabric

I used a poly/rayon/lycra that (for reasons unbeknownst to me) is also known as "Sophia" knit. This stuff attracts every piece of lint and pet hair within a 20 foot radius. But it's heavenly soft to wear. Since I'm planning to wear these only around the house, it's fine. I wouldn't use this fabric for a nicer garment though.

Construction/alterations

I cut a 38 based on my measurements. The fit is snug but not tight, I think it's just right. I didn't make any alterations, but looking at the pictures, I could afford to shorten the hem and inch or so.

Eek!....................................That's better.

The waistband is designed to be folded down over the hips. It's shown this way in the "All Styles at a Glance" section of BWOF.

Conclusion

With only 3 pattern pieces, you can have these pants traced, cut, and sewn in a matter of hours. This is exactly the kind of thing I love to wear around the house. I can see myself returning to this pattern over and over.

Those look great! And these pants were one of the few things I wanted to sew from the November issue - the cocktail dresses were nice, but not a good lifestyle fit. (Although, I guess, there's nothing stopping me from wearing a cocktail dress for dinner...)

Very nice! I like this look - does the waistband stay folded over or is it one of those that creep up after you wear it for awhile?

How fun! I love them!!

Stacy - I know what you're talking about; the waistband does stay folded over, at least with this fabric I used.

I love love love this pattern. Except for the waistband, which I reduced. I plan on making many more. The top is great, too. I have to get around to sewing the wrap top to finish the ensemble!

Christina, your pants look great. I was planning on making those as well, along with one of the yoga tops. Just waiting for that damn order to arrive (placed within Europe exactly 1 month ago and it was supposed to arrive in a few days!)
I'm glad to see the pants turn out so well. Thank you for sharing!

Great pants! I have been reading your blog for a couple weeks and love all your sewing. I just picked up a couple BWOF,(have to go an hr away to get) and I love the yoga wear. Im a beginner sewer so I havent even tried any of the patterns yet still trying to figure out how to trace them.

I'm new to using BWOF patterns and I wanted to know how you went about adding your SA's to the pattern?
Do you use a particular technique or tool?

Thanks,

Stacey
