Prep work

So my sewing machine was not ready to pick up today as I thought it would be. They said maybe on Wednesday. That's okay. I'm not dismayed (yet). Do you see that pile of fabric sitting on top of my ironing board? Those are all of my coat pattern pieces, waiting to be fused and thread traced. I've decided to thread trace the seam lines (for the first time ever!) so I don't have to stress about the fabric unraveling. I also cut wider SAs than I normally do, 1 inch or wider.

Last night I started thread tracing the sleeves, just to get the hang of it. They are 2-piece raglan sleeves, so there are 4 pieces altogether. While watching last week's Project Runway episode that I Tivo'd while out of town (45 minutes?) I did the tailor tacks in one pair of pattern pieces, and I got exactly one of those pieces thread traced. From now on, no more TV watching while thread tracing!

I like that BWOF makes it much easier to fuse since you just don't add the seam allowance. I thread traced the darts for my current project and it really does make a huge difference. Although, I am not patient enough to thread trace my seam lines. More power to you.

Well I'm a big thread tracing fan and even more when dealing with BWOFs patterns! I hope you're enjoying the thread tracing process; I find it very relaxing and while I'm doing it I can walk through the techniques I plan on using. For me it pays the extra time and effort, though I agree that thread tracing isn't always necessary.

I love your ironing board cover!

Can't wait to see the coat...I've not tackled something like that before.

Yeah I learned not to craft and watch tv too!! I don't need any help messing up my garments. LOL

Your fabric looks cool. I'm ashamed to say I don't know what thread tracing is.

Also, hope you don't mind I tagged you for a meme on my blog. Feel free to ignore it if you want.

I tend to do most of my tv watching while crafting, but PR is a hard one to do that with. Epsecially during the runway show.

Also, I know this is late, but congrats on your new niece!

Oh, what a promising pile you have amassed there. I like to pile my carefully cut pieces like that too sometimes...there is something gratifying about it, I'm not sure why. It says something about the joy of hand-crafting something..taking your time and paying attention.
