Built by Marc, or, Wendy by Marc Jacobs, or...

I was doing some browsing around the Neiman Marcus online sale section today (for inspiration purposes only, the prices are still outrageous - at least for those of us who can sew!). I came across this dress:

Marc by Marc Jacobs silk crepe dress, now $203, available at Nieman Marcus

The flutter sleeves, neckband, and close-fitting bodice totally reminds me of Simplicity 4112, one of the first blouses released in Simplicity's Built by Wendy line (View B, the short sleeved version):

I made View B in an embroidered black voile, and I can't decide if I like it with or without the belt better. I think something about the length is wrong for me, if I make it again I will shorten it. However (upon seeing Marc's dress!) I think this pattern would be lovely if it were lengthened into a longer shirtdress style. And in a silk crepe too, mmm.

Hey! Maybe MJ submitted this dress as his entry into the Built by You contest!

There are so many great reviews of this pattern on Pattern Review, check them out.
