Somehow this summer I managed to snag some amazing coat fabrics; these two here are my favorites. One the left is a star-pattern quilted coating by Anna Sui. It was a total impulse purchase from Emma One Sock. I'm searching my BWOF back issues for an appropriate pattern. On the right is a plaid wool coating by Burberry; I got it at Denver Fabrics for a mere $7/yard! I believe it's the same fabric as this double breasted "topper" available at Nordstrom for $1300. So a new fall coat is definitely on my Fall 2008 must-sew list.What's on your must-sew list this season? ReplyDeleteI'm finishing a patchwork twirly skirt in Halloween fabrics (should have that done tonight), I just bought a BurdaKids coat pattern for my daughter so that's on the list, and I bought all the stuff for my daughter's Christmas dress. Those are my big 3 right now.

ReplyDeleteThink I'll be doing some sewing for the new apartment. Some new pillows maybe and a table runner? Maybe? As soon as I unearth myself from the rubble of my move....moving a large stash of fabrics has been a nightmare. I don't know where anything is....so I probably won't be sewing much in the next few weeks.

ReplyDeleteI plan to sew a wool coat (dark purple melton), a couple more wool jumpers (a KS and BWOF), and a LBD (I have a few picked out).
I have three coats on my to-do list (not sure I'll get to all of them), and I need 3-4 winter dresses. Also some pants and matching blouses, a skirt or two... A little bit of everything, I guess.

ReplyDeleteWould it be way naff to say that two of the skirts out of that Patrones mag would be what I want to make? I've had a slow-down on the sewing front (I'm a knitter, and sewing is frustrating territory for me) but I've been wanting a black pencil skirt for work and cannot find one *anywhere*, which is weird and dumb. That magazine has two styles I'd make... and a skirt is something I can accomplish.
ReplyDeleteOh, oh! Also, my mum brought me back this gorgeous Trelise Cooper fabric from NZ - a striped gingham (yep) that I'm going to make into a full pleated mini, a la Prada.
I got in the habit of wearing jeans all the time. I'm trying to change that by making casual dresses that I can wear everyday, work or play. I also plan to make a light weight jacket. I don't need the heavy wools where I live, but I do want one that will cut the chill when we get those cold spells. I love, love your coat fabrics, especially the stars. I miss wearing the winter fashions from when I lived a little further north.

ReplyDeleteNow aside from my drooling over the magazine...I have a HUGE list of new patterns. I even organized them into the short and long list on Flickr. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/58906932@N00/collections/72157605971427192/) The funny part is the short list is LONGER than the long list. High aspirations I guess.
My next two fall inspired items are
08-2008-115 coat in purple coating of course and I hope to work 08-2007-111 into the line up using some coated linen.
That issue is really wonderful, isn't it? I must have spend a good hour pouring over the photos over at Fehrtrade! I just traced a pattern for a double breasted hip-length trench (Patrones #259, no 3) for the fall, so that's definitely in the works. Also coming up will be some more a-line shift dresses for work, a pair of wide-leg wool pants, and white shirt, not necessarily in that order.

When I went to France I literally stopped in every bookstore and sought out the fashion oriented ones and I could not find a single copy. Thank you so much for bringing an extra one back for a lucky someone. My must haves for fall are more skirts, in corduroy, wool, etc. I have a ton of tall boots that are just begging for more skirts.

ReplyDeleteMy plan is to first make up some nice jersey dresses that I have seen everyone else make over your summer. I have the fabric, patterns and now just need to get off my butt! That Patrones looks great. I love what I have seen others have been making lately from them.

The quilted coat fabric is Gorgeous!!! Have you seen V8123 done in a Dotted faux quilted leather.

ReplyDeleteI finally got myself organized and put things in my closet together for outfits and figured out what I need to do this fall. So far, I have made a white/brown/teal/yellow two piece knit dress from two BWOF patterns and I want to make a brown knit skirt out of the same pattern I used and a brown knit dress. I'm still looking for the perfect knit dress pattern but I'm thinking of going with the Vogue pattern that Carolyn(Diary of a Sewing Fanatic) used for HER brown knit dress. The other major project I have to get started with is a (again...what IS it with brown?)1950s swing jacket from brown basketweave wool that I have. Busy fall.

Now that the weather is turning I look at all my fall/winter tops and I'm not too jazzed about what is in my closet. And I plan to make at least one coat for myself. I really want a coat, but I need tops worse. Love both your fabrics!

ReplyDeleteFor the quilted coating you may want to look at the latest issue of Burda Easy Fashion. They havea voluminous coat there which IMO will compliment the fabric well and will have an overall updated mod look.

- High waisted skirt - I ripped the last one I made last weekend and nearly cried.
- Costume. Jem. Also, need to pick up pink hair dye. And darker dye for the next day.
I used to sew all the time, for myself and my daughter, then I gained alot of weight and stopped sewing. You have brought out the urge again.

ReplyDeleteI am actually going to be sewing alot of spring-into-summer clothes this fall. I'm going to Ireland at the end of June for two weeks, so I'm making my whole wardrobe for that trip this fall. Of course with it being Ireland I'll need to make lots of really beauitful coats!
My fall sewing list includes anything to use up this stash of mine. It is oppressive to me.

ReplyDeleteI, too, just bought an amazingly beautiful coat-weight Ralph Lauren wool print from Emmaonesock; I am going to make a coat from a vintage pattern (circa 1950s), but it is a style one could easily find on the runways this season. I also have fabric for two great winter hats. These projects are at the top of my Fall sewing list. I have never been able to locate a Patrones, and this issue looks great! Linda

I plan to use some vintage patterns that I scored online. These have interesting sleeve constructions, like raglan or kimono, I really like these variations from the cap sleeve.

ReplyDeleteThis year I plan on sewing the Hot Patterns Cullottes in very light weight black wool and the Body Suit in a white knit. I will make the Sailor Pants for my daughter in denim. I will also make a new Victorian Ball gown for a Vintage dinner in December. I will use the Past Patterns 1900 Wedding Gown pattern and use a turquoise and yellow crossdyed taffeta. It laces up the front and has a ruffle around the neck. I am sewing the Laughing Moon petticoat to wear under it. I love the Fall Burda collection and haven't picked my favorites to sew yet. My daughter is in school in San Francisco and needs to get hers picked out too. I will make aprons and Pajama bottoms for my family for Christmas.
